A descendant of the Quaker Mendenhalls of Southern England and Pennsylvania. "Aunt Annie" was brought to California from Arkansas as a toddler when the family hoped the California climate would return her mother to good health. Her mother, Eudora, succumbed to "consumption" within three months of arriving in Los Angeles. Annie was raised on her father's dairy on the site of what is now L.A./USC County Hospital. Later her dad, Tom Mendenhall homesteaded in the "wild" town of Calabasas. There his daughter, Annie, met and married Ed Lee. Ed and Annie farmed in what is now Pacoima, California. When her father passed away in 1924 she selected the lovely Grand View Cemetery for his last resting place. Later she and her brother and their families joined him.
