He taught school for eighteen years in Tucker County in the one-room schools including Limestone and the Murphy School on Pifer Mountain. He ended his career as a Math teacher from Parsons High School. He was an avid gardener, well known for his produce and blue ribbons at the West Virginia State Fair and the Tucker County Fair. He attended the Parsons Church of God.
