Laurie Malcolm Garby - age 97, formerly of Kentville, NS. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Veteran’s Unit. Laurie was born to Ruel and Hazel (Hennigar) Garby on November 26, 1920 in Upper Kennetcook, NS. After his service in the military, he owned and operated a garage in Clarksville, Hants Co., NS before moving to Kentville to join the Dominion Atlantic Railway where he remained until his retirement. He was a member of the Kentville Volunteer Fire Department, master mechanic for many years, Royal Canadian Legion Kings Branch No. 6 - serving as President, Service Office and was a life member. Dad enjoyed playing badminton, bowling, watching baseball, tennis, and rarely did he miss any of his grandchildren’s sporting activities. His carpentry skills were amazing, making many guitars, even in his later years with help from family. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Myrtle Goucher; his son, Leslie; sister, Alice; brother, Lewis and infant sister, Marion Bernice. Surviving are daughters, Hazel Boylan, Cheryl Scott (Lester Baker), Twila (Robert Connell), Kim Garby and Lorelei Stott; sons, Roy (Carole), John (June), 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; brother, Gerald and sister, Estelle Barron. Following his wishes, a Royal Canadian Legion service, followed by a funeral service and reception will be in St. James Anglican Church, Kentville, Reverend Doctor John Roddam officiating. Burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County.
