J. B. Norris

Joseph Barabas Norris was born June 6, 1850, in Delaware county, Iowa, died October 12, 1918, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry Evans at Hart,ford, South Dakota , aged 68 years, 4 months, and 6 days.
He was married to Mary J. Smith in Tazewell county, Ill., January 31, 1872. They came to Harison county, June 6, 1874, and settled at Reeders Mills. To this union nine children were born, three dying in infancy, those living are Charles Norris, Logan, Mattie Evans, Hartford, S. D., Ray E. Norris, Chicago, Claud E. Norris, Strahan, Iowa. Maud E. Stuve, Park Rapids, Minn., Grace I. Hobson, California Junction, Iowa.
Mr. and Mrs. Norris lived at Readers Mills until 1902, when they moved to Logan, residing here since then. The deceased has been a member of the M. E. church since 1877. For many years he has been a faithful member of Logan Lodge No. 335, I. O. O. F., and "Uncle Joe," as he was familiarly called by his host of friends, will be sadly missed by them as well as by members of his family.
Funeral services were held at the home in this city on Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. J. Creswell, and many followed the remains to the Logan cemetery to pay their last respects to the deceased. At the grave the impressive burial service of the Odd Fellows lodge was conducted by Bros. A. J. Miller and W. J. Cresswell.
Besides the members of his immediate family a brother, James Norris, and nephew, Maynard Ham of Earlyville, Iowa, were present at the funeral.
The bereaved wife and family have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their sorrow.
