He was born August 7, 1935 in McCune, Kansas to Donald J. and Gertrude (Kohlasch) Riggs. He grew up and attended schools in McCune.
He owned and operated Charlie’s Trim Shop in St. Paul and worked at SEK Auto in Parsons for many years.
He had attended St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arma. He enjoyed motorcycles, fishing, metal detecting for coins, camping, and riding three-wheelers.
He and Ruth Bernal were married in 1953. They later divorced.
Survivors include: a son, Ray Riggs of St. Paul, KS, two Daughters; Debra Riebe and her husband, Dana, of Pittsburg, KS and Linda Mein of Salina, KS; Stepchildren; Charlie Riggs of Erie, KS, Rick Martin of Columbus, KS, Jason Mathis of Pittsburg, KS, Kevin Mathis of St. Paul, KS, fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; and one brother, Clayton Riggs of Independence, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Donald Earl Riggs and Cecil Ellis Riggs; and one sister, Fern Litzenberg.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 7, 2018 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
