William Lakin Turner was the eldest of four children born to George and Eliza Turner (nee Lakin). He married twice: first to Rachel Selina Burville (1868-1935), and secondly to Janet Langham. He died of cancer on 21 October 1936 at the Yeatman Hospital, Sherborne, Dorset and was buried on 23 October 1936 at the church of St Mary Magdalene, Castleton, Sherborne, Dorset. William Lakin Turner was a landscape artist and is best known for his paintings of the Lake District. His painting of Rydal Water was purchased by Beatrix Potter and is on display at her home Hill Top. Other paintings can be viewed at The Ruskin Museum and Derby Art Gallery and Museum.
