Iron Mountain-Grant F. Allred, age 92, of Niagara, Wis., passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center, Iron Mountain, Mich.
He was born January 4, 1926, in Centerfield, Utah, son of the late Andrew Frank and Anna Myrtle (Anderson) Allred. Grant grew up in Centerfield and attended the Gunnison School. The start of his senior year, August of 1944 he entered the United States Navy. On September 2, 1945, while on the USS Botetourt Grant witnessed the surrender of the Japanese on the USS Missouri. Grant and four of his brothers served in the military during WWII. The Allred family would like to thank them for their service to this great country and to thank all the veterans of the USA.
On January 13, 1947, Grant married Alma Carol Hemmingsen in Brigham City, Utah. They made their home in Brigham City for 20 years. Grant was employed with the Western Electric Company, working in Ogden, Utah. In July of 1967, Grant transferred to Niagara, Wis. and worked out of the Iron Mountain, Mich. office. He transferred once again to Harlingen, Texas in 1974 and retired in 1980.
Grant loved most of all being with family and friends. He loved telling stories to anyone who would listen. Grant was a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served two years on a mission in Paraguay. Grant also loved doing genealogy work through the church. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and hiker. Grant taught his sons the importance of hard work.
Survivors include three sons, Frank L. Allred, Cambridge, Wis., Russ (Katy) Allred, Madison, Wis. and Jeffrey (Lynn) Allred, Niagara, Wis.; grandchildren, Jeremy (Leslie) Allred, a special granddaughter Beth (Brad) McGarr, whom he called his Angel of Love, Cory (Jennifer) Allred, Brent (Emily) Allred, and Ryan (Maryellen Wagener) Allred; great-grandchildren, Connor, Eila, Annabelle, Haley, Peyton and Porter; two brothers, Max (Maxine) Allred, Ace (Phylis) Allred; three sisters, Helen (Ben) Andreason, Donna (Miles) Anderson and Della Bunnell; and by a sister in law, Mae Allred.
In addition to his parents and wife, Alma, Grant was preceded in death by a sister, Doris and brother in law, Glen DeMill; brother, Everett and sister in law, Charlene Allred, brother, Leath and sister in law Dorothy Allred, sister in law, Rose Allred; brother, Ken; a brother in law, Lloyd Bunnell; a special brother in law, Norwood Hyer and sister in law, Mary Hemmingsen-Hyer.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 30, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich. Prayers with Bruce Watt will take place at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The American Legion Cretton-Tutas Post #136 of Niagara will accord military honors Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Niagara Cemetery (aka Saint Anthony Cemetery ).
The family would like to thank the staff of Evergreen Heights, Maryhill Manor, Veterans Affairs Medical Center and all the wonderful caregivers. A special thank you to Peyton Neuens Allred and Abbie Rugg for spending time bringing joy to Great-Grandpa Grant.

Grant Frank Allred joined the US Navy on August 9, 1944. His duty assignments were
NRS Salt Lake City, Utah; Nautracen, San Diego, Rec. Bks TADCEN Shoemaker,
California, Landing Craft School, San Diego and Rec Ship, San Francisco and the USS
Botetourt (APA 136). He received the Victory Medal, American Area, Philippine Libera¬
tion and Asiatic - Pacific medals. He was discharged May 20, 1946, in St. Louis. He and
his wife, Alma Carol Hemmingson Allred ,have three children.
