Ronald K. Richmond, former long-time Grand Ledge teacher and administrator, passed away on May 3, 2018 at age 91. He fought a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born on January 7, 1927, in Lansing, Michigan to Roy and Pauline Richmond. He lived in the Village of Millett until 1938 when his family moved to the Delta Center area in Delta Township.

He attended the one room Delta Center School through the 8th grade and graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1944. Ron was active in 4-H and F.F.A. activities in his youth and was a farmer until enrolling in Michigan State College in the School of Agriculture Education, graduating in 1951. He also earned a Masters and Education Specialist Degree at M.S.U.

He became the teacher of vocational agriculture at Lowell High School in 1951 and came back to Grand Ledge High School in the same capacity in 1952. Also in 1952, he married Marilyn Crumback from Perry, Michigan, and together they raised four children: Ricke, Kathy, Debbie and Gary. Ron later served as the high school Assistant Principal and Athletic Director from 1958 until 1967 when he was named Director of Business & Services in the Kenneth Beagle administration.

In 1982 he became the Grand Ledge Superintendent and retired as superintendent in 1984. He then worked as a part-time administrator for five years at Lansing Community College. He was active in many local, state and national associations. (Never applied for a job, was asked to come to each position in his career).

Ron enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Ledge Meadows Golf Course and American Legion Golf League for many years. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time at his Chippewa Lake cottage. He was an avid M.S.U. alumnus and Spartan supporter, as well as the Detroit Tigers.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, brother Gordon Richmond, son Gary Richmond, daughter Kathy Feighner, and daughter-in-law Peggy Richmond.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marilyn; son Ricke Richmond; daughter Debra (David) Peake; son-in-law Dan Feighner; 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; and sister Mary Lou Alleman.

Funeral services will be held May 8, 2018 at Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge, with interment to follow at Delta Center Cemetery, Delta Township.
