Phyllis Behnke Greenwood, 92, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Urbandale with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Gloria Dei.
Phyllis was born May 5, 1924, in Whittemore, IA. She graduated from Whittemore High School and from Waldorf College.
In 1944, Phyllis married Harold Behnke. The couple had one son and one daughter.
In 1978, Phyllis received her BS in Education degree from Drake University. She then taught at Valley High School in West Des Moines. Throughout her life, Phyllis was a faithful member of Lutheran congregations, where she served on evangelism teams and many boards.
After 50 wonderful years of marriage, Harold passed away in 1995.
In 1997, Phyllis married Charles Greenwood. They spent many happy years together before he passed away in 2005.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Doug) Jackson and granddaughter, Meredith; her son and his family; step-sons, Gary (Unsun) and Stan (Diane) Greenwood; two step-grandsons and two step-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Ann and Calvin and their spouses.
Phyllis will always be known for her love of her Lord and the importance of passing on that love of Christ to her family and friends.
