Teresa Jo Patterson Simmons, age 66, joined her Heavenly Father on May 4, 2018, after peacefully passing in her home in New Braunfels, Texas, with her devoted husband and family by her side. Strengthened by her faith, family, and friends, Teresa bravely fought ovarian cancer for nine years. “For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18.
Services will be held in New Braunfels, Texas. Visitation will be at Zoeller Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 9th from 5:00-7:00 PM and funeral services will be held at Oakwood Baptist Church on Thursday, May 10th at 10:00 AM.
Teresa was born on February 11, 1952, in Greenville, South Carolina, to Johnie Jo Patterson and Anna Lee Brooks Patterson. Her sister Julie Ann was born shortly afterward, and over the course of their life together, the Patterson family lived in Waco, Brady, Midland, Llano, San Antonio, and Kerrville, Texas, where Teresa met her husband of 48 years, Keith Eugene Simmons. Once married, Keith and Teresa lived in Cotulla and Seguin before settling in New Braunfels in 1974.
Teresa is survived by her husband Keith Simmons; her son Roger and Amy Simmons and grandchildren Abbie and Ryan; and her daughter-in-law Brooke Simmons-Winslett, husband Dax Winslet and granddaughters Addison and Allison Simmons. Her extended family includes her sister Julie Ann and Mike Wiley; her nephew Mark and Teresa Wiley and family; her niece Brook Wiley England, husband Jerred and family; her sister-in-law Kathy and David Neilsen; her aunt Joanna Brossett and family; her uncle Charlie and aunt DeeAnn Patterson and family; as well as many dear cousins. Teresa was preceded in death by her father Johnie J. Patterson and son Andie L. Simmons.After God, family was the most important thing to sweet Teresa. She served her family constantly with the heart of her Lord Jesus Christ. She coached soccer, was a Little League baseball score keeper, Cub Scout troop leader, team Mom for every sport, and her boys’ biggest fan. She watched every one of Andie’s football games, attended every musical concert Roger performed, and traveled with Keith to state and national competitive pistol matches. In addition to teaching 1st grade Sunday school for 21 years, Teresa was the Secretary of the New Braunfels Church of Christ for more than 31 years. To her, there were no strangers in the congregation; many became life-long friends that she knew could be depended on to serve when called. She and these women worked selflessly to organize services for loved ones, visit the sick and grieving, and ensure food was sent to those in need. In addition to running the church with heart and soul, Teresa also loved on people who came to the church office for her wise counsel, offered people a shoulder to cry on when they most needed comfort, and blessed members of the community who came to her in need. Briefly, before her cancer prohibited it, Teresa worked with her son Roger in his business S.O. 146 Investment Management, named for their beloved Andie. Roger created a nameplate for her desk; engraved on it were “Mom” and Proverbs 31:25-31, a scripture that describes Teresa Simmons beautifully.
