Katie Arlene Everette Simmons, age 61, of Elizabethtown passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018. She is preceded in death by her parents: Dannie James and Ola Mae Everette, brothers: Floyd Everette, Glenn Everette, O'Neil Everette, and sisters: Mary Lennon, Becky Tatum, and Joyce Barnes. Katie leaves behind her devoted husband Jim Simmons, sons: James Kinlaw (April) of Surf City; Joshua Simmons (Brittany) of Elizabethtown; and Ethan Simmons of Elizabethtown; daughters: Renea Stanley (Scott) of Elizabethtown; Amber Dowless (Jamie) of Clinton; brothers: Billy Everette of Elizabethtown, Randy Everette of South Carolina, Wayne Everette (Sharon) of Elizabethtown; Chris Everette (Kathy) of Albemarle, Terry Everette of Elizabethtown; Larry Everette (Joy) of Elizabethtown; Dan Everette (Wanda) of Elizabethtown; sister Holly Eastman (Ricky) of Clayton; eight grandchildren: Jakob Stanley, Jordan Stanley, Julia Stanley, Amelia Kinlaw, Sadie Kinlaw, Hunter Simmons, Hayleigh Simmons and Hope Ballentine, and several nieces and nephews.

Katie loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed baking, sitting in her favorite chair on her iPad or watching football, as well as basketball. She was a real dedicated Duke fan. Katie received a lung transplant eight years ago and has been cared for by her devoted and loving husband Jim, who she loved to give a hard time. She was loved by all that knew her and will be missed.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm on Sunday, May 6th at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 7th at 4 pm at Colly Chapel in Harrells with Rev. Jim Woodruff officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Everette Family Cemetery on Sweet Home Church Rd in Elizabethtown officiated by Rev. Larry Locklear. Pallbearers for the service will be Jakob Stanley, Jordan Stanley, Austin Larner, Ethan Simmons, Jay Everette, and Jesse Lennon.
