Susan was open to many ways to better understand the natural world. A self taught environmentalist, she worked tirelessly on land use, farmland preservation, and water management in north central Florida. Her deep respect of nature brought her to the forefront of the environmental community. As an activist, she spoke on behalf of our springs and spring protection, farmland preservation and protection of sensitive lands. She was honored by Thousand Friends of Florida and received a Florida Community Stewardship Award. She was recognized by the UF Public Interest Environmental Conference for her efforts with an Unsung Hero Award. Marion County Citizens' Coalition, Inc. (MC3) will honor Susan as the first recipient of a perpetual environmental stewardship award this year.
She was a Reiki Master, an animal communicator and a student of shamanism.
Susan is survived by Bill, her husband of 35 years; and two siblings, a sister, Nancy Hayes Golden of Wellfleet, Massachusetts, and a brother, A Lee Hayes of Marion, Massachusetts.
The celebration of Susan Woods will be on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 10:00 am. The gathering will take place at Crones' Cradle Conserve Foundation, 6411 NE 217th Place, Citra, Florida.
