Agnes was born to missionary parents in China. She returned to the United States when she was almost 15. After her return she had surgery but died briefly on the operating table. At that time she had a revelation of the spiritual side of life being as important as the physical. She returned to China eventually met and married Ted "Sandy" Sanford an Episcopalian pastor. The couple returned to the US and where Ted took a pastorate. Through several pregnancies Agnes experienced increasingly severe postpartum depression. He doctor was afraid she was going to commit suicide. Another local pastor Hollis Conwell prayed for Agnes and she immediately began to improve. She herself learned to pray for healing for others, both emotional and physical. Agnes began teaching others to pray for healing and wrote her first book "The Healing Light."
Agnes began traveling and teaching what she had learned. Eventually her husband joined her and they created the "School of Pastoral Care." The couple prayed for pastors to be healed and then they taught the pastors to pray for others. Her husband had a heart attack and died within a few years. Agnes felt called to move to Monrovia, California. She felt that God was asking her to intercede that earthquakes would not destroy the state. She continued to pray until her death on February 21, 1982. Her books included The Healing Light, Healing Gifts of the Spirit, Lost Shepherd, The Healing Power of the Bible, Sealed Orders, Creation Waits, Dreams are For Tomorrow, Behold Your God, Oh Watchman, Lets Believe, Route 1, Twice Seven Words, The Healing Touch of God, A Pasture For Peterkin, Melissa And The Little Red Book, and The Second Mrs. Wu.
