Vernon was born in Wildrose, North Dakota on September 26, 1928 to Silas and Signe Anderson. As one of six children in the countryside of North Dakota, Vernon learned the meaning of hard work at an early age. This would later serve him well as a truck driver for many years in the oilfields of Alaska. In 1950 he married Mary Elizabeth Manning and they went on to have eight children together.
Those that knew Vernon best would probably describe him as a hard-working individual that was always in the mood to give people playful grief; especially his nurses at Eben Ezer Nursing Home. Vernon had a great reputation as a hard worker and was well liked by everyone that knew him. He was also someone that loved his country and served for numerous years in the United States Army.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his children, Kathy, Wanda, Sandy, Raymond, Sharon, David, Melody, and Maryann; his sister, Beverly; twenty-eight grandchildren, forty-eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by wife, Mary; his parents, Silas and Signe; his siblings, Avis, Harriet, Raymond, and Jean; his grandchildren, Sissy and Billy; and his great grandchild, Davien.
A viewing will be held at the Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan on May 3, 2018 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. The funeral is scheduled for 10:30 am on May 4, 2018 at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mr. Andersons life.
