Reverend Ralph O. Acridge, a retired minister with the Church of God, died at age 89 on December 13, 1996. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vernice, and three children, Harvey, James, and Mary, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Reverend Acridge was born on January 9, 1908 in Edna, Kansas. He served four years in the Army Tank Core from 1927 to 1931. Reverend Acridge was an Arizona pioneer settling the Southwest for the Church of God, and in 1943 he moved his family to Tucson, Arizona, where he became the Pastor of the Church of God. In 1952, his ministry brought him to the Valley and over the next 12 years he pastored churches in Mesa, Glendale and South Phoenix until his retirement in 1963. In 1964, Reverend and Mrs. Acridge became evangelist in Arizona and California, leaving the ministry in 1967. He remained active in the church and was a member of the Retired Ministers Association. Earlier this year the Church of God inducted him into the Hall of Prophets, a high honor reserved for certified ministers who had distinguished themselves in the service to the church.
Services were held Monday, December 16 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of God, Cathedral of the Valley, 8807 N. 61st Place, Glendale, AZ, with interment at Green Acres, 401 North Hayden Road in Scottsdale.
