DALLAS, GA - Thomas L. Gilmer Sr., a former resident of Bossier City, died at his home in Dallas, GA on March 27, 2007. Thomas was born in Fillmore, LA July 29, 1929. Services were held April 5, 2007 at Everly Funeral Home in Fairfax, VA. Burial was at Quantico National Cemetery in Quantico, VA. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Pauline Dotson Gilmer; his parents George D. and Tometta Gilmer; sister Helen Backwell of Bossier City; brothers Jessie Lee Gilmer, Wilmer D. Gilmer and Charles Simpson. He is survived by his daughter Peggy Ellen Woods and husband Barry of Burke, VA; sons Thomas L. Gilmer Jr. and wife Angela of Covington, GA and Larry W. Gilmer of Dallas, GA; sisters Myrtis Nolan and Mary Webber Chaney of Bossier City; Violet Brown of Sinking Springs, PA and Lucille Chapman of Maplewood, LA; 1 brother, Bobby Gilmer of Benton, LA; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Thomas was a graduate of Bossier High School, class of 1946 and a 57 year member of Ironworkers Local 201, Washington, D.C. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corp. Thomas accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior as a teenager at the First Baptist Church of Bossier and on Jan. 14, 2007 at the First Baptist Church of Atlanta, GA. He again confessed he was a sinner and rededicated his life to his Heavenly Father. He will always be remembered by all who knew him as a very kind and caring man. A special thanks to Barbara Gilmer for her help with Thomas in his final days, both physically and spiritually. He was proud to have had a part in the building of the Capital Centre in Landover, MD.
