Elmer Coyle dies Thursday

Elmer A. Coyle, 75, retired Idabel ginner and farmer, died at 1:50 pm Thursday at McCurtain Memorial Hospital. Born April 5, 1885, at Coal Hill, Ark, he had resided in Idabel since 1918, moving from Texas.

He was a member of the Christian Church.He moved here following a career in baseball. He started his playing with Washita college at Arkadelphia. From 1908 to 1910 he played with Fort Worth and Houston in the Texas league, then went to the Southern League where he played with Chattanooga, New Orleans and Birmingham. He retired from baseball in 1916, and two years later moved to Idabel to enter the cotton farming and ginning business.

He was an aviation enthusiast and he received his private pilots license after he was 60 years of age. He bought an airplane and flew extensively, inspecting his farm holdings mending business and pleasure trips. He had been in ill health in recent years and suffering a stroke.

He is survived by his widow. Funeral services have been set to 10am today at the First Presbyterian church with Rev R. E. Harrison. Burial in the Dennison Cemetery under direction of Coffey funeral home.
