Stanley Parker

Stanley Davis Parker was born June 26, 1940, at Pierre, SD, to William Fay Parker and Winnifred (Puryear) Parker. His parents owned a grocery store and gas station near the Hwy 63 Cheyenne River Crossing, where he spent his childhood. In 1952, the Parkers moved to Pierre, where Stanley joined the Methodist Church and worked a variety of summer jobs including construction of the Oahe Dam.

After graduating from high school in 1958, he met "L.S." in Whitewood, SD, and they were married on April 26, 1959. During their 59 years of marriage, four sons were born.

Stan worked for the Veterans Administration in the 60s, the logging industry in the 70s, and owned a propane distribution business in the 80s and 90s. After selling their business in2001, Stan and his wife frequently visited Oregon and South Dakota, while spending their winters in Arizona. In 2008, they returned to Newell, SD, where Stan built their current home.

Stanley Davis Parker, Lieutenant Colonel, United States Army, South Dakota National Guards, Retired, age 77, of Newell, SD, died May 2, 2018, at Sturgis Regional Hospital.

Survivors include his wife; 2 sons; daughter-in-law; eight grandchildren; four great -grandchildren; and his brother, Mike Parker.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Winnifred; father, Fay; brother, William; sister, Patty; and sons, Steven and Douglas.

Services will be held for Stan Thursday, May 10, 2018, at 10:30 AM at Newell Evangelical Church, 110 8th Street, Newell, SD. Inurnment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery at 3:00 PM the same day.

A memorial has been established for a fund for his great-grandchild.
