She was the daughter of Guy E. and Lydia G. (Dolezilek) Strimple. She grew up on a farm, attended a one-room school house, and in 1945 graduated from Rossville High School as the valedictorian.

She worked as a clerk for Santa Fe Railroad until she retired in 1987 after 42 years.

In 1946, she met Allen C. Carter, a veteran, who “swept her off her feet.” They were united in marriage July 14, 1946 in Topeka, KS, and celebrated 50 years together before he preceded her in death December 26, 1996.

She enjoyed traveling to see historical sites, do genealogy research, look for wildlife, and visit family and friends. She liked to sew, quilt, crochet, and garden.

She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church and the DAV Auxiliary.

Survivors include her daughter, Diana Mae Owens; step grandchildren Bobby Daniels, Wendy Jenkins, Bill Daniels, Lawanda Houp, six great, and three great-great; brother, Clyde W.
