Jack Gail Long, 81 passed through the gates of heaven where he was reunited with his wife Carol, sons, John and David, and a host of many other loved ones.

He was born on July 6, 1936 to Nelson and Pauline Long. Jack married the love of his life, Carol Long on October 2, 1954. Their marriage was blessed with seven children: Laurie Ann Rieck, Michael Allen Long, John Eugene Long, David Bryce Long, Alan Wayne Long, Melanie Jane Fisher and Scott Nelson Long.

Jack loved life and was so proud and dedicated to his large family and his many friends. His dedication was shown in many ways including helping his wife to care for his son David for 21 years. He had a heart of gold and was always trying to help everyone in every way possible. He will be severely missed!

Jack worked as a tractor tire builder at Firestone for more than 40 years. His hobbies included working in his garage and taking care of the many things on his acreage, driving his golf cart, and working on Ford tractors, among a host of other things. He was known for growing the best tomatoes ever. Jack’s customers traveled from far and wide to buy his tomatoes.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife Carol, parents Nelson and Pauline, and sons David and John. He is survived by children Laurie Ann Rieck (Mike), Michael Allen Long (Carla), Alan Wayne Long (Tammy), Melanie Jane Fisher (Bill), and Scott Nelson Long. He is also survived by his sister, Juneal Davis as well as 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 4 at Sundberg Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the family present. The funeral will also be held at Sundberg Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5th. Interment will be at Squire Boone Cemetery in Boone, IA., followed by a luncheon at Pizza Ranch from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Boone.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Taylor Hospice House, 3401E Douglas Ave, Des Moines, IA 50317.
