Rev. B. J. Houston was born August 22, 1906 in Shady Grove, Marion County to Mr. & Mrs. Willie Houston. He was one of 10 children, in later years the family moved to Hernando, FL.
He was converted at an early age and joined Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. He later met and married Sis. Nettie Houston, she passed away October 7, 1983. They were married for 50 years. Rev. Houston was called to the ministry at an early age. He pastored various churches: Beaulah Missionary Baptist Church and Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Dunnellon, FL. and New Salem Baptist of Holder, FL. until he passed awa on March 8, 1984.
He was President of the Levi Lodge of Hernando, a Pall-Bearer Union Member and other offices of the Senior Citizen Clubs of this Community.
He leaves to mourn: Daughters: Jacqueline Strange, Sara Hikes and Phyllis Houston of Hernando, FL. Thelma Brooks of Brooksville, FL., Verlene Mobley of Ocala, FL. Three Sons: Lloyd Houston, Bennie Houston, Jr. and David Houston of Hernando. Two Son-in-laws: Albert Strange and Willie Brooks. Three Sisters: Lelia Washington of Monticello, FL., Marie Brown of Tampa, FL. and Francis Harrison of Pompano Beach, FL. Four Sister-in Laws: Thelma McCrimage, Sallie Wright, Marie MaMahon and E.J. Johnson. Three Brother-in-Law: Adam Brightmon, Willie Wright and Mose McCrimage. Twenty-seven Grandchildren and fifteen great Grandchildren. A host od other relatives and sorrowing friends of whom will miss him greatly.
