Bart graduated from Winterset High School in 1963 and joined the Air Force where he achieved the rank of Airman First Class. He was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base and Edwards Air Force Base, where he was a member of the air police.
Bart joined the West Des Moines Police Reserve where he was president and later became a full time member of the West Des Moines and Windsor Heights police departments. He also was employed at Marriott as part of their security force. He then worked for Valley High School for many years where he coached basketball and volleyball and worked with the punters and kickers. He was a referee and track meet starter, ran the clock for Drake mens' and womens' basketball games as well as football, and filmed the Valley football games for more than 25 years.
Bart was a member of Urbandale Legion Post #663, and a member of the volleyball and track officials association. After retirement, he served as a volunteer at the Iowa Hall of Pride.
Bart married the love of his life, Marjorie Jeanne Wharff, on July 25, 1981. She preceded him in death on January 6, 2015. Bart was also predeceased by his parents and his four legged friend, Largie.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m., Sunday, at Merle Hay Funeral Home. His funeral will be at 2 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home with entombment at Resthaven Cemetery.
