Pauline was born in Canada. Her parents traveled from Coventry England shortly after they were married and lived several years in Canada before returning to Coventry and raising their children. There were 2 brothers and Pauline.
When Pauline was 20 she married Erik Strom, of Sweden who was working for Volvo Trucks. They had one son Martin Strom who died in 2003 of ALS, Lou Gherigs disease. His last days were spent in the care of his wife in Sweden.

Pauline endured her final illness and death at home in Tampa. This was a very painful end for her and her beloved husband Jim Black. They had worked together in various Marine businesses they established in Merritt Island, Florida and later In Tampa.
