George during the American Civil War mustered in at Wilmington, Delaware as a private in the Delaware 8th Infantry,Company B, on 26 August 1864 and died of disease at the Augur General Hospital near Alexandria, Virginia on 6 June 1865.
Mother of Elizabeth, John, Lovina, Margaret, Rebecca and William, all who died as infants and are buried at the Wilmington-Brandywine Cemetery with their mother. Three children, George, Alfred and William are known to have lived to adulthood.George and Alfred also were Delaware Civil War veterans.
George however is buried in the Civil War veterans section of the cemetery.
