She was born at Occoquan in Fairfax County on Aug. 5, 1759. She was the second daughter of Rev. Lee Massey and his first wife Mary Johnston. He was George Washington's pastor at Pohick Church. She married (first) Major William Truman Stoddert of Charles County, Maryland. His mother was the sister of General William Smallwood. Their home was known as "Simpson" on Smith Point, Charles County, Md. Major Stoddert owned extensive property and during the Revolution both he and Sally were cited as contributing wheat to the Revolutionary soldiers. It's possible she managed Stoddert's wharf near Bryan's Road, Md. during the war. William Stoddert died in 1793 and sometime after 1794 Sally married secondly, Alexander Greer, an Irish immigrant.
Sally and William had two children: John Truman Stoddert (1790-1870) and a daughter, Lucinda Stoddert (1782-1789).
After her first husband's death, Sally was determined to manage her own affairs and her husband's. She was determined even with her second marriage, that her son, John was well educated and provided for. John later became a lawyer. Sally died on Dec. 10, 1821 at "Simpson", Smith Point, Charles County, Md.
