BREWER - Patrick H. Campbell, Sr., 95, husband of Roselle Campbell, died April 29, 2018 at a Bangor hospital after complications from a fall. He was born on December 20, 1922 in Lincoln, Maine, the son of Henry L. and Elizabeth H. (Lawler) Campbell.
Patrick "Pat" Campbell was well known for his larger-than-life spirit, his devotion to his large family, and his work ethic. He lived in Danforth until age 12, and then Eastport where he worked at a bowling alley setting up pins by hand for a penny a string. He learned machine tooling at Quoddy as a teen and worked for Waterbury Clock in Waterbury, CT (TIMEX) making bomb timers for the war effort. He became an Aviation Mechanic during WWII aboard the USS Coral Sea and later married Roselle (Turner) on December 26, 1949. He later became an Aviation Electrician and a Combat Aircrewman, flying AD5N "Sky Raider" aircraft in the Mediterranean during the Korean War and Vietnam War with his unit VC-33 (AW) "Night Hawks" which was an all-weather attack bomber squadron aboard the USS Midway and the USS Franklin Delano Roosevelt. After 20 years of service, he retired in 1968, returning to Brewer to start Campbell's Vending Service with 5 coffee machines, growing it into a well-known area business. He also worked for U.S. Customs, retiring again after another 27 years of service.
Pat is survived by his wife of 68 years, Roselle Campbell of Brewer; his children, Kathy Gagnon and her husband Joe of Brewer, Carolyn Campbell of Bangor, Steve Campbell and his wife Patty of Brewer, Mike Campbell and his lifelong companion Linda Blackwell of Bangor, and Rosemarie Eggert and her husband, Mike of Charlotte, Vermont; two brothers, Norman Campbell and his wife, Sondra of Brewer and Charles Campbell and his wife, Eleanor of Brewer; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Pat Campbell was predeceased by an infant daughter, Roselle, three sons, John, whom he cared for fulltime until his death of ALS, Douglas, and Patrick Campbell Jr. and by a sister, Marie McDonough.
A graveside service with military honors will be held 12 noon Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. Pat Campbell was a huge dog lover.
