His family moved from Missouri to Colorado when he was a teenager. He graduated from Berthoud High School in Colorado in 2014, having excelled there in academics and sports. During those years, he also served his church on mission trips to Mexico. He attended the Colorado School of Mines for a year before he enlisted in the US Army in 2015. He deployed to Afghanistan in September 2017 in support of Operation Freedom Sentinel. He was killed by enemy small arms fire just weeks before his first overseas deployment was to end. His military awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; Parachutist Badge; and, posthumously, Purple Heart.

He was survived by his parents; two sisters; his maternal grandmother; paternal grandparents; and many other relatives, friends, and fellow servicemembers.

A public memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Lifebridge Christian Church in Longmont, CO, followed by a private military burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver on Monday, May 14, 2018.
