US Congressman. Elected as a Democrat to represent Ohio's 9th District in the United States House of Representatives, he served from 1937 to 1943. After graduating from the law school at St. John's University in 1918, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in World War I. He was honorably discharged soon after the armistice treaty between Germany and the Allied forces. He was then admitted to the bar in Ohio and practiced as an attorney in Lucas County. He was also a member of the Ohio Legislature before being elected to Congress in 1936. He was reelected twice and was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1942 and 1944.
