Heart Ailment Results in Death Of John Canale

This community where John Canale, had lived for the past 22 years has grieved to learn of his death Tuesday morning, August 7, 1956 at his home in Lacona as the result of a heart ailment. He had been ill for three weeks.

Mr. Canale, who first came to Lacona as a shoe repairman, was widely known and liked and had built up an extensive business which was later expanded to include dry cleaning, with Mrs. Canale taking charge of that branch of the business.

Mr. Canale was 55. He suffered a serious heart ailment several years ago and was confined to his home for a long period at that time, eventually recovering so that he could resume his work.

About three weeks ago he was again stricken.

Born in Italy

He was born March 31, 1901 in Rome, Italy, the son of Thomas and Lucille Canale. After attending school there, he came to the United States at the age of 24.

March 14, 1929 he was married at Oswego to Miss Frances Salesi and then lived in Oswego for several years. They came to Lacona in 1934 and Mr. Canale opened a shoe repair shop in the small alcove attached to the brick-block in Lacona, then owned by Dr. L.P. Hollis, who had become acquainted with Mr. Canale in Oswego.

As business increased, Mr. Canale moved to larger quarters in the block, and the dry cleaning establishment was started.

Surviving Relatives

Surviving Mr. Canale is his wife, Mrs. Frances S. Canale; a daughter, Miss Carole Canale, a teacher at Hicksville, Long Island; twin daughters Lucille and Lucinda and a son, Michael Canale who reside at home.

He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Therese (John) Pacific of Watertown; a brother, Anthony Canale in Italy and three other sisters residing in Italy.

Mr. Canale was a member of St. Francis Xavier, Cabrini Catholic church of Lacona, where his funeral was held at 9:30 Thursday morning, the Rev William T. Shanahan of Pulaski officiating.

Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery, Sandy Creek.
