Stephen Crary Dies Thursday At Lacona Home

Stephen A. Crary A. Crary, 49 was found dead in a bedroom of his Salisbury Street home last Thursday, afternoon as the result of a gunshot wound *in his chest.

Mrs. Frank Crary of Canton who had been helping care for the family while her daughter-in-law was in the hospital found her son's body.

Assistant District Attorney Thomas McCarthy of Oswego said it was apparently a case of suicide and this finding was confirmed by Dr. Nicholas Alter, county pathologist, who performed an autopsy. It was disclosed that Mr. Crary had been ill and it was believed he was also despondent because of the serious illness of Mrs. Crary.

Private funeral services for Mr. Crary, and for the infant daughter, Nancy Ann Crary who died last Thursday in the House of the Good Samaritan two days after birth, were held at the Weston and Woodard. funeral home Saturday afternoon. Rev., Robert Vining, pastor of Sandy Creek Baptist church, officiated.

Graduate of St. Lawrence.

Mr. Crary was born May 25, 1919 in the town of Pierrepont, the son of Frank and Ella Paddock Crary. His early life was spent in St. Lawrence courity. He was a graduate of Canton High school and a graduate of St. Lawrence university, as were the other members of the family.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Esther Wagner Crary,; two sons, Charles 11 and David 8; and a daughter, Judith, 6. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Crary of Canton; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Warzel of Palisade and Mrs. MariOn Flagg, Oakford, Pa., two brothers, Dr. Albert Crary of Washington, D.C., a leading Antarctic scientist; and James CraTy of, Lafayette, La.


Mr. Crary had operated a truck garden here an d supplied local people and stores with top quality produce.
