Darlene Lewis, 79, passed away October 1, 2016 at Birchhaven Village. Darlene was born to Richard and Marcelle (Rister) Johnson of Bowling Green. She was a 1955 graduate of Bowling Green High School. She married Norman C. Lewis on July 17, 1965. They have three children: Richard "Scott" Lewis, Lisa (Mike) Best and Connie (Craig) Roberts. They have one beloved granddaughter, Grace Carlene. Darlene was a 51 year member of Salem United Methodist Church. She served as church historian and helped the church celebrate 150 years. She was a 30 year member of the Fort Findlay Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. In the DAR Darlene held the offices of State Historian, Northwest District Director, State Transportation Co-Chair and Chapter Regent. Darlene loved recruiting new members for the DAR. She attended the annual DAR Continental Congress in Washington DC for 20 years. Darlene loved history and genealogy. She loved to travel and visit historical sites. She was also active in the Ohio Genealogical Society and First Families of Wood County. Darlene was a 4-H advisor for many years and a Hancock County Fair volunteer in the baking and canning department for 25 years. She compiled a cookbook of winning recipes to celebrate the fair's 50th anniversary. She served many years on the Board of Elections for Cass Township and served as presiding judge. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents and a beloved sister Sandy Wansitler O'Mara. Darlene is survived by a brother, Steve (Barb) Wansitler. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 from 2:00 - 400 & 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Ray Kane officiating. Burial will follow in Knollcrest Gardens, east of Findlay. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Salem United Methodist Church.
