Sister Mary Carmel Ruth, OSU (Kathleen Ruth) 100, died March 13, 2017 at Maria Regina Residence. She was born on January 18, 1917 in Waterford, Ireland. She entered the Congregation of the Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk on September 8, 1940 and professed her final vows six years later.

Sr. Carmel ministered for many years as a teacher. Her ministry was extensive and included teaching at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ozone Park from 1943-1948 and 2000-2003; St. Thomas the Apostle in West Hartford, CT from 1948-1966; Our Lady of Grace in Howard Beach, NY from 1966-1969, 1973-1979 and 1989 -2000; and Our Lady Star of the Sea, Stamford, CT from 1969 -1973.

In 2003, after many years of active service, Sr. Carmel retired to Blue Point where she continued a ministry of prayer and visiting the sick.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Twenty-five of her family members from Ireland joined her to celebrate her 100th birthday in January.

Her funeral Mass was celebrated March 17th at the St. Ursula Center Chapel in Blue Point.
