June Davis Courtney

Age 74, died at her home in Good Hope, WV on April 27, 2018. A faithful Christian, June entered her new home that same day, where sorrow and suffering will never be found.

June was born on June 03, 1939 in Schutte, West Virginia, the eldest daughter of the late Sanford and Jessie Curry Davis.

Spending her childhood days in that lovely area of Doddridge County, WV, June was always surrounded by good friends and many cousins. As a child and teenager she was active in Vermont Baptist Church in Sedalia, where fine Christian folk influenced her life and faith. She attended Doddridge County High School, where she was a member of the marching band, and she graduated with honors in 1957. June then graduated from a business college in Clarksburg and had a lengthy and fulfilling career with People’s Life Insurance.

On July 15, 1978 June married William “Bill” Eugene Courtney, and she was deeply devoted to him throughout their 35 years of marriage before his passing on March 17, 2014.

June is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Sally and Ron Merritt, of Washington, WV; as well as her nephew, Gregory Merritt, of Parkersburg, WV. Additional survivors include Courtney nephews and nieces, life-long friend, Judy Hess, and many cousins. The attendees at the family reunions and church socials coming up this summer will miss June, where she reveled in the presence of those she loved. Special note is made of June’s dear friends, Debbie Stover and Cathy Exline; and two Courtney cats, Sammy and Buddy.

Active in New Bethel United Methodist Church, June had served as a lay speaker and a Sunday School teacher of youth and adults, and participated in the United Methodist Women’s Club and “His Hands” Ministry. She and Bill were active members of the West Milford Lions Club for many years.

An avid reader, June was never without a book. She was also a huge fan of WVU sports, and followed the sports scenes at Doddridge County High School and South Harrison High School. June enjoyed reruns of “The Andy Griffith Show,” was a friend to wiener dogs and tabby cats, a letter-writer like no other, and a great giver of Christmas presents. June will be remembered for her humor, intelligence, kindness, and loyalty. She will be dearly missed by everyone who’s lives she touched in special ways.

Friends and family will gather at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service at 144 Hackers Creek Road in Jane Lew from 4-7 PM on Wednesday, May 02, 2018, and from 10-11 AM on Thursday at the New Bethel United Methodist Church at 9230 Good Hope Pike in Lost Creek.

Funeral Services will follow at 11 AM with Reverend Destry Daniels officiating.

The Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored and privileged to serve the family of June Davis Courtney.
