Debra J. Nixon-Bennett, 64, of Lacon, formerly Eureka, died at OSF St. Francis Medical Center on April 28, 2018. Born to Donald and Anita Moore Nixon, she married Roger Bennett on October 25, 2017 in Lacon. Deb was employed as a bookkeeper by Congerville-Eureka-Goodfield Community School District 140 for over 24 years.
Deb is survived by her husband Roger of Lacon; son Nathan Yeager of Peoria Heights; daughter Holli “Jeanine” (Tom) Gorsuch of Ludowici GA; stepdaughters Jennifer (Jason) Burke of Asheboro NC, Heather (Ross) Ketcham of Washington; stepsons Roger (Amanda) Bennett Jr. of Lacon, Timothy (Amber) Auer of Henry; siblings Mike Nixon, Sandy Spencer, Lee Ann Hasselbacher, Dee Ann Topolaski, Roy Stivers, & Steven Stivers, and 16 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother Ronnie Nixon and mother Anita Nixon.
You have never met an animal that didn't love Deb more than it loved you. She adored her bird Jerry, dog Gizmo, and cat Henry. Deb was an avid reader of Steven King and crime novels. She loved to watch her son and husband play video games, and her grandchildren watch cartoons. In her time she enjoyed bowling, sewing, cooking, knitting, candle making, and the personalization of teddy bears. She was quiet and accepting, never one to kick you off the tv (especially after she got an iPad). She was many things to many people, and indispensable to them all.
Visitation will be held Thursday May 3 from 5 to 7 PM at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon. Cremation rights will then be accorded and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date in the Lacon Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the ARK thearkanimalshelter.org
