She was born March 7, 1916 to the late William and Lula Coyner.
Hazel served the congregation of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in every conceivable way during her lifetime---as Sunday school teacher, as president of the women's organizations, as a member of Council, as a trustee, as a representative to Synod conventions, and those are only the official positions. She truly became the "matriarch" of the congregation, a role she filled with gentleness and humility. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Martin Breuer, Sr. in 1994 and her son Gordon Martin Breuer, Jr. in 1987. She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: Vada Foster, Louise Rader, Gladys Quick, Evelyn Vines, Frederick Coyner and Clemmer Coyner. She was the last surviving member of her family. Surviving is her foster brother, John Blakely, sister-in-law, Margaret vanKirk, her two daughters, Jane Alford and her husband, Butch, and Joan Wingfield, and her husband David. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Miriah Breuer Thornton, whom she had raised from the age of six, and her husband Jason. She is als survived by grandchildren, Mary Garris and her husband Travis, Neil Wagner, Rachel Wingfield, Kayti Wingfield, and Blair Wingfield. Great grandchildren include: Mya Lisa Meek, Madison Wagner, Carlie Thornton, and Jake Garris. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 14, 2007 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Pastor Randy Lohr officiating. Burial will be held earlier at Augusta Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, April 13, 2007 at the family residence on 1292 Ladd Road. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1148 Ladd Road, Waynesboro, VA.
