Mrs. Lane was born in Gates County on September 25, 1933, and was one of ten children born to the late Bennie and Ethel King Owens.
Retired from George C. Moore Company, she was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Earl Lane, Jr.; a sister, Doris Jean Brickhouse; and by brothers, B.G. and Bob Owens.
Surviving are a daughter, Gail Phelps and husband, James, of Roper; two sons, Mike Lane and wife, Carol, and Don Lane and wife, Monica, all of Edenton; five sisters, Frances Robertson of The Villages, FL, Ruth Lane, Joyce Evans, and Mary Bivens, all of Edenton, and Carolyn Howell of Kill Devil Hills; a brother, Billy Owens of Hertford; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Following a private family burial in Beaver Hill Cemetery, a service celebrating her life will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Macedonia Baptist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. Bob Young.
The family will greet friends in the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the service, and all other times may be joined at Don and Monica's home.
