Mrs. Ola Ackerman Dies at Age of 81

Funeral services for Mrs. Ola Ackerman, 81, who died at her home in Lacona Friday afternoon, June 30 1944, were held from the home Monday at 2 p. m., with Rev. Herbert Harrison, pastor ot the Methodist .Church, officiating. Burial was In
Woodlawn cemetery, Sandy Creek.

Mrs. Ackerman was born in Lisbon, St. Lawrence county, March 16, 1863, a daughter of the late William and Julia Servis. When a child she moved with her parents to Boylston where she attended school.

On Sept. 7, 1879, she was married to George H. Ackerman, member of a pioneer family of Boylston. Two children were born to the couple, Harma Ackerman, who died in 1943, and Fred Ackerman who died in childhood.

In 1886, the Ackerman family moved to Sandy Creek where she since made her home.

In 1905; when operation of summer resort sites started to flourish, Mr. Ackerman purchased property on Ontario Bay and conducted the Ackerman hotel there until his death in 1920. His son, Harma, continued in the business for some time.

During the last few years, Mrs. Ackerman had spent summers in Lacona and winters in Syracuse with her granddaughter, Mrs. Nicholson.

She was a member of the local Methodist church, Mistletoe Rebekah Lodge and the former Coterie club of Lacona.

Survivors are a granddaughter, Mrs. Arthur L. Nicholson, Syracuse; two great grandchildren, Bill and Mary Nicholson, Syracuse; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Harma Ackerman, Lacona, and nephews and nieces.
