Mary Sidney Speer died on Saturday April 14th at 8:28 AM with her children and beloved caregiver at her bedside.

She was born to the late Julius Sidney Wiggins and Georgia Byrd Wiggins, November 6, 1931 in Monroeville Alabama.

Mary attended Auburn University in Alabama, where she met and married John Spurgeon Speer Jr. on June 4, 1953. John passed away May 12, 2008.

In her younger years Mary enjoyed painting, drawing, sewing, fishing, camping with her family, raising Silky Terriers and supporting her husband John during his Military career, and in his other endeavors. She also was a member of the Women’s Sorority, Beta Sigma Phi.

She is survived by 4 children: Kathy Speer, John Speer III, Cindy Speer and Lynn Speer White. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

The family is requesting that donations be made in Mary’s name to the Alzheimer’s foundation of America at alzfdn.org.



Visitation will be held Thursday April 19, 2018 Natchez Trace Funeral Home 759 US Hwy 51, Madison Mississippi 39110, with graveside service following At 2 PM in Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery.

Following the burial service we hope you will join us in a gathering in celebration and sharing of memories of Mary’s life with family and friends at Pelican Cove 3999 Harborwalk Drive, Ridgeland MS.
