Obituary from the Yukon (OK) Review dated 28 Apr 2018, page 6A:

Jackie Hartpence, 85, was born Jackie Ann Wonder on February 19, 1933 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Ted Wonder and Ruby (Phillips) Wonder at the Sayre Hospital, just one block from the new 'Mother Road', Route 66. She passed away April 25, 2018 in Oklahoma City, OK.

She started school in Sayre and then moved with her family to Borger, Texas. Moving back to Sayre in 1949, Jackie graduated from Sayre High School in 1950.

Jackie married James Burton Hartpence on July 2, 1950 in Sayre at the home of her grandfather, Dr. George Wendell Phillips.

While living in Sayre, James and Jackie had five children, Jim, Steve, Jeff, Dennis and D’Ann, born in the same hospital where Jackie was born. The family then moved to Oklahoma City in June of 1961 and one more child, Joe was born at Mercy Hospital.

With six children, Jackie was always involved with activities in which they wanted to participate. She was a Cub Scout Leader for years and years and very active in the PTA at both Eugene Fields Grade School and Classen High School. Jackie never shied away from hard work. While raising her own children in the early years, she ran a day care for younger children. Her home was always full of love, fun, and laughter.

In 1973, Jackie began working for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services as a case worker. While working for the DHS, she volunteered to work on many committees that for the Oklahoma Public Employees Association. She was also a member of the FEMA team supporting the Oklahoma City bombing recovery. After 23 years of dedicated service to the DHS, she retired in February of 1996 as a Supervisor.

Not long after retiring, Jackie moved to Yukon residing in a house that was only a few blocks from the 'Mother Road'. She could not seem to get far from that old Route 66. She attended the First Christian Church in Yukon and volunteered at the Manna Pantry for many years. When she started volunteering at the Pantry it was in a small closet in the church. Through her hard work and persistence, donations increased and spilled into the hallways and classrooms. As director of the Manna Pantry, she saw the need for a larger space and coordinated the renovation of a house into the new Manna Pantry.

In February of 2005, Jackie was nominated for the Yukon 'Volunteer of the Year' award by the Manna Pantry board members. She was given the award for her honored service and dedication to the hungry people of eastern Canadian County.

Jackie was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

She is survived by her children: Jim and Dianne Hartpence, Rowlett, TX, Steve and Brenda Hartpence, Oklahoma City, OK, Jeff Hartpence, Yukon, OK, Dennis and Rita Hartpence, San Antonio, TX, D'Ann Hartpence, Yukon, OK and Joe and Sherri Hartpence, Choctaw, OK; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the Yanda & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Yukon, with interment following at 2:00 p.m., at Sayre-Doxey Cemetery, Sayre, OK.
