Margaret Hanger Rhodes, of 749 Hillview Drive, Dayton, daughter of the late Boyd and Thelma Knicely Hanger, died on Friday, April 27, 2018. She was born on May 27, 1934, at Weems Watkins Hospital in Waynesboro.

Margaret graduated from Wilson Memorial High School in the Class of 1951. She attended Blue Ridge Community College and Massanutten Technical Center. She worked at Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center and retired from Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community.

Margaret was a member of Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church in Fishersville for over 60 years, where she sang in the choir and served as president of the WOC. She was a former member of the Cosmopolitan Club.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Rhodes; her parents; a brother, Charles E. Hanger; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Survivors include her daughter, Vicky Conyers and husband, Dann; and two sons, David Hevener and wife, Debbie, and Scott Hevener and wife, Donna. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Melissa and Tommy Lloyd, Alexis Conyers, Erik and Kile Hevener, and Marcus and Alisha Hevener. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren, Jace, Brynna and Evan Lloyd, Parker Hevener and Harley Grace Hevener. She is also survived by her sister, Doris Jean Hanger Walkup, and a special sister-in-law, Kay Hanger. She is survived by nephews, Kirk Hanger and wife, Marilyn, Ted Hanger and wife, Debbie, Tim Walkup and wife, Andrea, and Jim Walkup; and niece, Penny Guy and husband, Cabell, and many cousins. Also survived by special friends, Tom and Elaine Estep and “Cody,” Michelle Estep and “Jersey” and Charlene DeCamillis, Phyllis Bower and Gay Meek.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2018, at Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church in Fishersville, conducted by the Revs. Dr. Kirk Hanger, Dr. Rosalind Banbury and Merle Fisher. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews, grandsons, and Eddie Hanger and Tommy Lloyd.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Drive, Fishersville.
