Ernie was the son of the late Thomas C. and Goldia (Bartholow) Rogers. He married Yvonne Davis on October 6, 1951.

He was a graduate of Community High School; attended Texas State Barber College, Houston, Texas; Reggis LaMar Barber College, Akron. He was a Air Force veteran of the Korean War, where he obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He owned/operated Roger's Barber Shop, Byesville for many years. He was also employed at Champion Spark Plug for twenty-six an a half years before retiring in 1992. As a member of Calvary Baptist Church, he was a youth leader, a Sunday school teacher, Deacon, and Chairman of the Board. He was a member of Byesville Village Council for six years, UAW, Ohio State Board of Barbers Union, Chairman of Guernsey County Park Commissioners, Community Improvement Corporation, Cambridge, a former member of Byesville Board of Trade, and a Republican Central Committeeman.

His memory is cherished by his wife, Yvonne; son, Rex; daughter, Rhonda; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Eric, Andrew, Adam, Melissa, Matthew, and Marianne; great grandchildren, Brodie, Luke, Jordan, Alex, Jackson, Madelyn, James, Ethan, Harley, Lyla, Greyson, Garrett, Ryan, and Peyton; sister, Charlotte; sisters-in-law, Joan and Marlene; several nieces and nephews.
