Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Matthew J. Sr. and Margaret C. O'Donnell Byron, he was a member of the former St. Mary's of the Assumption Church.
A graduate of Scranton Technical High School, he enjoyed his life and listening to Elvis, country music and the Beatles, and he loved J.F.K.
He is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Griffin and husband, Joseph, Dickson City, and their three sons, Joseph, Rhys and Gavin; Susan Pizzola and husband, Stephen, Duryea, and their two sons, Domnick and Jackson; Allyson Byron and fiancé, Thomas Jeffers, Duryea, and their daughters, Emma and Ava; a son, Matthew Byron III, Scranton; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Matt's kindness and concern for people extends beyond his life because he donated his corneas so that others may see.
The funeral will be Monday with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. John Vianney Parish at Corpus Christi Church, 704 Montdale Road, Scott Twp., celebrated by the Rev. Michael J. Kirwin, pastor, followed by interment at Cathedral Cemetery.
