Anna Greenwood Price, 95, of Navasota and Plantersville passed away Thursday, April 26, 2018 at her home in Navasota surrounded by her children and wonderful caregivers.

Visitation with family and friends will be Tuesday, May 1, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Nobles Funeral Chapel.

A celebration of her life will be held at Nobles Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 10 am with the Rev. Michael Williams officiating. A brief graveside service will follow at the Montgomery New Cemetery in Montgomery, Texas. Friends and family will gather afterwards for a meal at Town Hall in Plantersville, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.

Anna was the first of five children born to John Alfred and Virginia Forester Greenwood on August 4, 1922. She spent her early life in Plantersville in the midst of a large extended family graduating as the valedictorian of Plantersville High School in 1939. She attended Sam Houston Teachers College and later the University of Houston before the U. S. entered WWII.

She spent the war years working for Shell Oil Company at the Deer Park facility and after the war on June 8, 1947 married Morgan L. "Bob" Price of Montgomery, Texas. The couple made their home in Houston until 1952 when they returned to Plantersville and continued family traditions in farming, ranching and operating the family general store. Anna and Bob were both members of pioneer families of Grimes and Montgomery counties and imbued their four children with a love of history and a desire to serve the community.

Anna was proud of her work with the Plantersville Cemetery Association and enjoyed her involvement with the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She is probably best remembered as the Postmaster in Plantersville from 1960 until 1992. Under her guidance the post office transitioned from the quaint cubbyhole in the Greenwood Mercantile building to the modern free standing facility that serves the community today.

Her home in Plantersville was naturally the hub of all family events and she became the repository of much local and family history. Everyone knew that if they had a question beyond the reach of most memory then it was time to ask "Miss Anna". For many years Anna was busy with family and work and was ever grateful for the help of Mrs. Willie Mae Henderson who kept things running smoothly on the home front.

After Bob's death in 1985 Anna kept the cattle operation running with her brother, John A. Greenwood II along with the constant help of L. J. Hubbard of Dobbin. In 2004 she moved to Navasota continuing to live independently and enjoy family events which also shifted to the new setting.

She took great joy in her role as grandmother and great-grandmother, ever patient, honest and calm, providing a steadfast foundation for each generation. Her family knew that her love was unconditional and her expectations were high.

She is survived by her children, Morgan G. Price and wife, Brenda, Catherine Price, Virginia P. Hatton and husband, John, and John F. Price and wife, Angie; her grandchildren, Katie Jacobs and husband, Riley, Timothy Price and wife, Evye; and great-granddaughter, Emma, Joshua Hatton, Samuel Hatton, John Hill Price and Elizabeth Price; two sisters, Virginia Cook and Grace Boswell and husband, John D..

The family wishes to thank caregivers, Sandra Sanders and Kathie Johnson of Navasota as well as Sarai Navarette, Alejandra Ugalde and Kay Shoemaker.

Serving as pallbearers will be Joshua Hatton, Samuel Hatton, Timothy Price, John Hill Price, Elizabeth Price and John A. Greenwood IV.
