Mary Ruth Jones Colbert, beloved and devoted mother, grandmother and friend passed away on April 25, 2018, surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be at First Baptist Church in Grenada from 2:00 – 4:00 PM Friday, April 27, 2018 followed by a service to celebrate her life. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada.
Mary Ruth was born on July 18, 1925, in Sumner, Mississippi, to Frank and Mary Ruth Wilson Jones. She was married to William Clifton Colbert for 65 years prior to his death in 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Wilson Jones and Frank Jones, daughter Sherrill Colbert Petty, son-in-law Dudley Hutchinson, and infant twin grandchildren Stephen and Elizabeth Stovall.
Mary Ruth’s greatest joy in life were her girls. She was often seen traveling in her Chevrolet station wagon filled with giggling girls headed to a church or school event. Holidays and memory-making were her specialty. As a true Southern Lady, her kitchen was the hub of every gathering. Grandchildren hovered around her, sneaking bites of her famous cinnamon rolls. She was an active WMU member of First Baptist Church, Grenada Garden Club and the DAR.
She is survived by three daughters, Dianne Stovall (Richard) of Gypsum, CO, Cindy Kinnison (Mike) of Cleveland, MS, Janine Hutchinson of Madison, MS and eight grandchildren, Stephanie Ball (Brian) of Brandon, MS, Catherine Hathcock (Chris) of Grenada, MS, Mandy Oldham (Kirk) of Fruita, CO, Ric Stovall (Liz) of Eagle, CO, Mary Claire Parrish (Andrew) of Madison, MS, Kate Van Namen (Jake) of Memphis, TN, Dudley Hutchinson (Andrea) of Grenada, MS, and Will Hutchinson of Houston, TX. Mary Ruth has also been blessed with eleven great grandchildren.
