Obituary for Eliza Jane (Greenfield) Miller Barger

WAS LAST OF FAMILY

ELIZA MILLER BARGER SUCCUMBS TO COMPLICATIONS AT NORTH LIMA HOME

Was Active In Church and G.A.R. Work--Hattie Bishop Circle Services At Grave in Columbiana Cemetery

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Fry's Funeral Home for the late Eliza Miller Barger, 90 years, 11 months and 21 days of age, who died from complications on Thursday, December 24, at the home of her niece, Mrs. Rebecca Hamerich, North Lima, where the deceased had resided for the past two years. Prior to that Mrs. Barger had lived in Columbiana where she was widely known as a pioneer resident.

She was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., January 3, 1841. Mrs. Barger was twice married. The first was celebrated when she was united in marriage to Amos Miller on February 6, 1877. Her second marriage was to William Barger. Mrs. Barger was the last of her family and leaves as descendents one son, Harry Barger, of Jamestown, Cal., and one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Patterson, of Pittsburgh, Cal. There are also six grandchildren.

As was her custom, Mrs. Barger was in attendance at the Memorial Day exercises held in the Columbiana cemetery last May and was the oldest person present. She was much interested in the new Soldiers' monument, toward which she had contributed and which had been erected in the front part of the cemetery facing Park avenue since her last visit there.

Mrs. Barger's first husband, Amos Miller, and her second husband, William H. Barger, both of whom were soldiers in the Civil War, are buried in the Columbiana cemetery. Mr. Miller was killed November 9, 1864, and the future second husband, a member of the same regiment, was one of the soldiers who bore his body off the field.

The deceased was one of the oldest members of the Columbiana Grace Reformed church as well as the G.A.R. Hattie Bishop circle, and W.C.T.U. Rev. A.S. Glessner of Youngstown officiated at the services which were in charge of the Hattie Bishop circle. Interment was made in Columbiana cemetery.

NOTE: There is one mistake in this obituary. The marriage date given is for when she married William, not Amos. Eliza and Amos were married March 1, 1860. Amos and William served in the same unit in the Civil War; they were both Privates in Company H 115th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

* Eliza is buried in an unmarked grave in the Columbiana Cemetery. Her resting place is one plot to the right of her 1st husband Amos Miller.
