In her own words: “I was born on a farm eight miles north of Bowman, ND. A doctor was present at my birth which was on April 30, 1926. I was child number 10 of a family of 10 girls and 2 boys. I taught school for one year after I graduated high school. After I taught school I got a job working at the Clara Lincoln Café as a waitress. I met my husband at a girlfriend’s house. We got married in Bowman on February 17, 1947. To this union five children were born.”
Eileen was known for her delicious homemade bread and caramel rolls, rhubarb custard pie, knitted sweaters, caps and mittens for her children and grandchildren, and knitted Christmas stockings. After she learned to crochet she made oodles of scrubbies which she shared generously. She loved to play cards, especially, Pinochle, and Spite and Malice, which she would play at the drop of a hat and usually won. One of her great accomplishments was raising five good children of whom she was very proud. Eileen’s words of wisdom: “Love thy neighbor, oh and most of all, love thyself.”
Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, her parents, ten siblings and several in-laws.
Special thanks to the caring staff of Allison Neighborhood at Lyngblomsten Care Center in St. Paul, MN, Allina Hospice and her medical team at Genevive Care Services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to go to School of Promise, 204 7th Ave. SW, Bowman ND 58623 or donor’s choice.
