Mary Speer Mobley was the daughter of Benjamin Henry Mobley and Mary Penelope Stilman.

She married George Washington Jacobs, son of John Peter Jacobs and Emma C. Hansen, on December 30, 1923, in Carpenteria, Santa Barbara County, California; they were married until his death on April 15, 1961. The couple had two children, namely:

Mary M. Jacobs of Southeast Portland died of respiratory problems Tuesday in a Portland care center. She was 90.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 6 in the United Methodist Church of St. Helens. Private interment will be in Portland Memorial Mausoleum.
She was born Mary Speer Mobley on June 30, 1900, in Elberton, Ga. She graduated from the University of Oregon in 1921 and married George W. Jacobs in 1923. He died in 1961.
Mrs. Jacobs taught at schools in California and Eastern Oregon. After moving to the St. Helens area in 1944, she worked for the Oregon State Welfare Commission for 11 years until her retirement in 1966.
She was a past regent and chaplain of the Oregon State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She belonged to the Ionic chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Jacobs is survived by her son, George M. of Milwaukie; stepdaughter, Jeannette M. Crew of Vacaville, Calif.; sister, Eugenia M. Smith of Roseburg; [half] brother, [living], hometown unknown; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family suggests that remembrances be contributions to the Methodist Ministerial Education Fund in care of the United Methodist Church Center, 1505 S.W. 18th Ave., Portland, OR 97201."

Mary's son, George Mobley Jacobs, lived in Milwaukie, Clackamas County, Oregon, at the time of her death. He married Lela Mae Thomas on August 30, 1947, in the District of Columbia; they were married until Lela's death. The couple had three children, one daughter and two sons, all of whom are living. Lela Mae Thomas was born December 14, 1922, locale unknown, and died on June 15, 2010, in Riverside County, California, as Lela Mae Jacobs. George M. and Lela were both cremated; the cremains were returned to the family.

Mary's daughter, Dorothy Emma Jacobs, married Kenneth Hayes on August 10, 1952, in Columbia County, Oregon. The couple lived in Halifax, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, where Kenneth was a professor. Dorothy and Kenneth appeared on Ancestry.com's, "Canada, Voters Lists, 1935-1980" in Halifax East-Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, as late as 1974. Since she is not mentioned in Mary's obituary, it appears that Dorothy died before September 21, 1990.
