Carolyn Sue Johnston-Murphy, 74, of Clarksburg, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018, with her immediate family by her side. Carolyn was a veteran of the Women’s Army Corps and a retired employee of the State of West Virginia.
Born July 23, 1943, in London, WV, Carolyn was the daughter of the late William Sylvester Johnston (1914-1991) and Freda Ellen Fridley-Johnston (1922-2005). Carolyn was also preceded in death by her husband, James Michael Murphy (1942-2016); two sons, James Auvil Murphy (Deceased) and William Audie Murphy (Deceased); a brother, Ralph William Johnston (1949-2000); and a grandson, Jason S. Hammond (Deceased).
She is survived by a daughter, Cherri Murphy-Whitlock and husband Larry Whitlock of Shady Spring; sons, Charles Murphy and wife Betsy Murphy of Roanoke, WV, and Patrick Murphy and wife Tammy Murphy of Beckley; four sisters, Drema Johnston-Schieck of Denton TX, Hester Johnston-Bradley of Weatherford TX, Mary Johnston-Oiler of Bridgeport, and Helen Johnston of Clarksburg; three brothers, Robert Johnston of Belva, Herbert Johnston of Gauley Bridge, and Ray Johnston of Moundsville; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Melton Mortuary Chapel. The family is receiving friends at 12 noon.
