Larry A. Bergman, 85, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015 at his home. Visitation will be from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday with a memorial service following at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel at Lutheran Church of Hope.

Larry was born in Washburn, Wisconsin on May 9, 1929 to Bertil and Mabel (Holman) Bergman. He graduated from AIB in Minneapolis and served in the U.S. Army for three years. Upon his return, he married Phylis A. (Penny) Johnstone. They lived in Roseville, Minnesota and had one son, Mark A. Bergman.

The family moved to Des Moines in 1965 where Larry opened Larry's Photography and eventually moved the studio to Winterset, Iowa. Larry retired and then went to work for Earl May Garden Centers where he was known for his planters and flower arrangements/designs.

Larry showed long haired Dachshunds all over the U.S. and Canada. Larry and Penny were members of the Des Moines Kennel Club and Central Iowa Dachshund Club.

The family joined Lutheran Church of Hope in 1993 where Larry was an usher until 2013. He also helped in many ways around the church and was involved in many planting projects at the church.

He is survived by his wife, Phylis; son, Mark (Debbie) Bergman; other family members and many friends.
