Gary Earl Lucas, 72, Anderson, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018, at his home surrounded by friends and family following an extended illness. He was born on May 24, 1945, in Indianapolis, to William Earl and Martha Pauline (Brough) Lucas. Gary was graduated from Anderson High School in 1963 and received a bachelor's degree from General Motors Institute in 1967. He retired in 1995 from the former Delco Remy division of General Motors in Anderson where he worked as a manufacturing engineer. Gary was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church; former Scout Master of Troup 237; member and past master of the Lapel Masonic Lodge No. 625; Order of Eastern Star Chapter 154; Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis; and the Anderson York Rite Chapter, Council, and Commandry. He was proud that AA was influential in his over 20 years of sobriety.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Tonya (Love); two children, Troy (Jennica) Lucas and Trina Lucas (Josh Kindlesparker); four grandchildren, Isabella, Quinn, Conner, Kade; his father, Earl Lucas; one sister, Darlene Carron; and one nephew, Jeff Gregory. Gary was preceded in death by his mother.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 4011 W. 200S, Anderson, with Pastor Kristine Marshall officiating. Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2018, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 N. Main St., Lapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church or the Lapel Masonic Lodge No. 625.
